My wife, kids, and I took a beginner ukulele class, and it was such a great experience. None of us plays an instrument, so we went in a tiny bit stressed—we ended up loving it. Our instructor, Kealii Lum, made us feel welcome and comfortable right away. The lesson was fun, engaging, and easy to follow. Now everyone wants a ukulele. Highly recommend—put down the iPhone, pick up a ukulele, give me a hug. Mahalo.

My husband and I had a lovely experience taking two courses with The Wonderful World of Aloha in October 2025. We took Hula lessons and a bracelet making course, both added unforgettable experiences to our amazing trip to Maui. The instructor for both courses was welcoming, knowledgeable and it was obvious she loves what she does; sharing her family's beautiful culture and stories. We went well over our allotted class time talking to both the instructor and her family, they added so much to our trip and contributed to our love of Maui.

Great experience with the bracelet weaving! I went with my wife having never crafted anything and somehow with a great instructor I left with a finished great looking bracelet and a much greater knowledge of the Hawaiian/Maui culture. Would recommend to anyone with or without a creative bone in their body, with me being Olin the later category. Kacia and Jerry Nelson (Michigan)

I was unimpressed with the wood carving class. Based on the description, I expected a hands-on experience where each participant would carve their own small piece to take home. Instead, the class was primarily a lecture on the history of Polynesian tiki carving and the instructor’s family history, which was interesting, but not what I had anticipated. The hands-on portion was very limited. We each only had a few brief turns carving on a single communal block rather than working on individual projects. The staff was kind and welcoming, and the small museum space was nice, but the class itself felt misrepresented. This experience would be better described as a “Polynesian carving history lecture with a hands-on component” rather than a carving class. I hope they take this feedback, because the concept has real potential. It just doesn’t fully deliver on what’s currently being advertised.

Response from Oni Foundation Inc - Wonderful World of Aloha Cultural Activity Center

Aloha Melissa, we apologize for your underwhelming experience. While our reply isn’t going to change your experience, we would like to let you know that the description of our Wood Carving Demo was not written by us and would seem to have been generated by AI and based on an out-dated description from almost 2 years ago. We did not submit our activities with ExperienceGifts.com, which is where it seems you booked this activity with us; they must have pulled this activity from one of our other platforms. Guests of our wood carving demonstration with Uncle Vili have been quite satisfied but we understand that it was not what you expected and not as described on ExperienceGifts.com. We will be reaching out to that website to update our listing with them. Regarding guest participation with carving, we have considered offering a more extensive experience but there are several logistical challenges with that so we opted for a simpler experience. We will reconsider our offering based on your feedback. Mahalo for having chosen our center to visit. Again we apologize for your disappointment. Aloha.

My family and I recently did the "Lauhala Bracelet Weaving Craft Class" - absolutely recommend. We learned a lot about Hawaiian history and culture, and everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. It is a great way to make your own souvenir, while also gaining a deeper appreciation for the people, culture, and history of Hawaii. Highly recommend!

Aloha Hagerty Family! Mahalo for choosing to visit our cultural center, and for the kind review. We’re thrilled you got so much out of your class. Mahalo for your support!

Took the bracelet weaving class. Very good instruction and she was a wealth of Hawaiian culture information she shared as we made the bracelet. Looking forward to taking future classes.

Mahalo Sherry, we look forward to having you visit us again too! A hui hou!
