La volta simples («vuelta simple») es el giro fundamental de forró por debajo del brazo —generalmente, la primera rotación que aprende un bailador— que se ejecuta en el baile de pareja en abrazo cerrado del noreste de Brasil, al son del baião, el xote y el arrasta-pé.[1] Surge directamente del paso básico del forró: la pareja mantiene el característico abrazo cerrado, con la mano derecha del líder apoyada en la espalda de la seguidora y su mano izquierda unida a la derecha de ella, balanceándose en el patrón lateral que suele contarse «dois pra lá, dois pra cá» —dos pasos hacia un lado, dos de regreso al otro.[2]
Conducción de la figura
El líder eleva las manos unidas por encima de la cabeza de la seguidora e indica una dirección en sentido horario; ella pasa por debajo del brazo levantado y rota hacia su derecha, abriendo aproximadamente media vuelta en los primeros pasos y cerrando la mitad restante al regresar frente a él, mientras el abrazo vuelve a envolverla.[3] La rotación se integra en el pulso continuo en lugar de ejecutarse como una pausa —generalmente se extiende a lo largo de uno o dos compases del tempo 2/4 del forró, de manera que el paso subyacente nunca se interrumpe—, lo que forma parte de la razón por la que figura entre los primeros movimientos que se enseñan a los principiantes.[4] Las escenas de habla inglesa conservan el nombre en portugués: los bailadores de comunidades como la de Nueva York siguen llamando volta simples a esta figura.[3]
En los distintos estilos de forró
El nombre formal de la figura y su forma codificada pertenecen al forró universitário, la escuela sistematizada y rica en figuras que organizó giros como este y los llevó desde las escenas universitarias brasileñas hasta las comunidades de forró en Europa y América del Norte.[5] En el forró pé-de-serra, más antiguo y de raíces más tradicionales, la misma rotación por debajo del brazo sigue presente, aunque se improvisa dentro del abrazo y está menos formalmente codificada que su contraparte en el forró universitário.[6]

Líder
From the side-to-side basic ('dois pra lá, dois pra cá'), the leader raises the joined left hand (his left, her right) above the follower's head and indicates a clockwise rotation, letting his right hand release lightly from her back; he marks a compact basic in place while she turns, then lowers the hand to re-gather the embrace as she re-faces him.

On the raised-hand cue the follower steps beneath the lifted arm and rotates to her right (clockwise), turning roughly 180° to open away from the leader across the first steps and completing the remaining 180° to a full rotation as she re-faces him, keeping her own continuous step timing and re-settling into the embrace.
Tiempo musicalComfortable in mid-tempo xote (roughly 100–130 bpm), the slower rhythm on which the basic is usually taught; brisk baião and arrasta-pé tempos (around 150 bpm and up) compress the rotation and demand a tighter, quicker turn, marking the fast end of the figure's comfortable range.

Ten cuidado
Errores comunes
- Follower turning on her own before the hand-lift instead of waiting for the raised-arm cue
- Leader yanking or over-tensioning the arm to force rotation rather than lifting a relaxed frame and indicating direction
- Raising the joined hands too low, so the follower cannot pass cleanly beneath
- Rushing the rotation and breaking the underlying pulse instead of spreading it across the steps
- Follower under-rotating and stopping short of facing the leader, leaving the embrace misaligned
- Over-gripping or dropping the joined hand mid-turn and losing the connection
No confundir con
Movimientos que se confunden
- Volta dupla — a double turn of two full rotations; a separate, harder figure
- Salsa/bachata underarm turn — a different timing frame on a fixed slot; forró has no slot and no break beat
- 'Giro' — a Spanish-language term from salsa/Latin-ballroom vocabulary, not forró's Portuguese terminology
