Rueda El Lazo es una figura de brazos entrelazados en rueda de casino — la forma cubana en rueda del casino (salsa cubana) en la que las parejas dispuestas en círculo bailan el mismo movimiento anunciado al mismo tiempo. Su sello distintivo es el lazo en sí: con el llamado, el líder levanta las manos enlazadas y guía al seguidor/a en un giro de modo que los brazos vinculados se cierran formando un lazo cerrado, y luego invierte el camino para desenredar el envolvimiento y devolver a la pareja a un agarre abierto o cerrado.
Ejecución
El envolvimiento y la suelta se bailan a tiempo sobre el paso básico del casino, de modo que el ritmo se integra al paso en curso en lugar de interrumpirlo. Dado que todas las parejas ejecutan la figura al mismo tiempo, la rueda permanece sincronizada y resuelve el lazo en un tiempo compartido antes de fluir hacia el siguiente llamado, lo que preserva el ritmo colectivo del círculo, principio organizador de la rueda.
Llamado y cambio de pareja
En su forma estándar, El Lazo mantiene a cada pareja unida: no se produce cambio de pareja. El cambio ocurre únicamente cuando el cantador añade dame, el comando estándar de rueda que hace que los bailadores pasen a la siguiente posición en el círculo; sin él, la figura comienza y termina con las mismas parejas. El mismo envolvimiento también se lidera fuera de la rueda como un movimiento social en pareja, en el que una sola pareja lo ejecuta sin cantador.
Nombre y variantes
Como otras figuras de rueda, El Lazo circula bajo su nombre en español. Los cantadores lo anuncian como "El Lazo" tanto en las escenas cubanas, de Miami e internacionales de rueda, y los llamados generalmente no se traducen ni se renombran localmente, de modo que el mismo término indica la figura dondequiera que se baile la rueda. El nombre describe la forma de la figura: en español, lazo denota una atadura, un moño o una cinta[1] — el aro que forman los brazos enlazados al envolver y luego desenredar.

Líder
From open or closed position with the leader's left hand holding the follower's right, the leader dances the casino basic and on count 1 raises the joined hands. Over counts 2-3 he leads the follower into a clockwise (to her right) turn, opening her roughly a quarter; over 5-6-7 he draws the joined arms around to close the loop, completing to about a half-turn so the arms form the lazo. On the second measure he unwinds the same half-turn, lowering the hands to restore the hold. He keeps his own partner — no change unless the call adds 'dame'.
Seguidor
The follower mirrors with opposite footwork on the casino basic. On count 1 she steps and lets the joined hand rise; over 2-3 she begins her clockwise (right) turn under the raised arm, opening about a quarter; over 5-6-7 she continues turning as the arm wraps around, completing to roughly a half-turn and keeping her own frame so the loop forms cleanly. On the second measure she unwinds the half-turn back to face the leader and resolves to open or closed position on the wheel's shared beat.

Ten cuidado
Errores comunes
- Under-rotating the wrap — stopping short of the ~half-turn so the arms never close into a clean loop and the couple ends offset.
- Pulling the joined hands down too early and collapsing the lazo before the wheel's resolve beat, breaking sync with the other couples.
- Forcing the follower's arm instead of letting her frame travel, which tangles the wrap and strains the shoulder.
- Adding a partner change when no 'dame' was called, or missing one when it was.
- Drifting off a tiempo or rushing ahead of the shared count so the couple resolves before the rest of the wheel.
No confundir con
Movimientos que se confunden
- Enchufla — a different rueda call (a partner-change pass), not an arm-wrap.
- Sombrero — a rueda figure that loops the arms over the head; visually similar wrap but it finishes over the head ('hat'), not as the lazo loop.
- 'Paso cruzado' / 'cruzado' — means cross-step footwork, not this figure.
- Lasso/whip patterns in linear (slot) salsa — rueda's lazo is danced inside the circle, not along a slot.
