  I appreciate the niche offerings such as Salsa Caleña, Rueda de Casino, and Kathak. The teachers have an exquisite and grounded approach that honors the cultural heritage, origins, and evolution of each dance style, and I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to learn from them. Matias' passion is evident, and fosters opportunities to merge typically divergent dance communities, which helps us all learn in a deeper way while expanding our social circles and skillsets as dancers. As far as private lessons, Irina is an impressive, perspicacious, patient, and gentle instructor whose skills reflect an expansive and accomplished career as a dancer. She has a keen eye, and encyclopedic knowledge of her craft. Taking private lessons with her is about more than just improving your dance skills - you'll walk out of her studio feeling like a truer version of yourself. We are blessed to have this studio in Pittsburgh!!

  Matías is a wonderful teacher! He is very supportive, encouraging, and helpful in learning dance. In every lesson there is an emphasis on the various aspects of great dancing - technique, artistry, style, history, and culture. He will always seek to adjust the lesson to the students abilities, goals, and desires, whether there are several students or only a few. It's truly immersive, enjoyable, and well worth your time and money. I'd recommend him to anyone who's looking to level up their dancing, or just have a fun night out.

  We took private lessons with Matias for our wedding first dance, and we couldn't be happier with our decision! We chose a waltz for our first dance, but neither of us had any dance experience, and this was our first serious attempt at learning. Matias is an incredible instructor—patient, kind, and truly amazing. He taught us so much in a short amount of time, all while making the lessons fun. Matias pays great attention to detail and explains things so clearly, which really helped us as absolute beginners. We were able to learn the basics and even some fun tricks in just five lessons. He also created choreography that we both felt comfortable with and that looked fantastic. Despite our busy schedules and an international trip that required us to constantly reschedule, he was incredibly flexible and accommodated all five lessons in a limited timeframe. We highly recommend him to everyone who want to learn dancing, but especially for those who are thinking about taking lessons for their first dance!

  I was referred to Apasionato Dance by one of the local dance studios . At that point, I was trying to learn Cuban Bolero and Son Cubano in a way these dances have been taught and danced in Latin America. It seemed impossible here until I met Matias and Irina. They did not disappoint! Their attention to the quality of movements and the quality of instructions combined with the knowledge of Latin dance history made all the difference! The studio location is by itself a big plus- right in the middle of Squirrel Hill and easily accessible from anywhere in the city and suburbs. Private lessons are wonderful, as you never share a room with a group of other students and instructors all dancing to different types of music at the same time. It also helps that Apasionato Dance offers many different types of classes as well as privates and teaches many different types of dances, both ballroom and social. The studio has really become a “one stop shop “for all your dancing needs. Matias and Irina are both very professional and very patient instructors. They helped me tremendously in improving my dance level and I look forward to continue learning more from them in the future. I highly recommend Apasionato Dance. I know that Matias and Irina can and will help their students to become the best dancers they can be.

  I have taken lessons over the past 13 years from different ballroom dance instructors and have a good basic understanding of the different dances. When I started taking lessons from Matias and Irina, I realized they easily identified some flaws in my dancing and offered small adjustments that made the moves smooth and precise. They have a fresh approach that explains the roots and history of the dances and how the majority of the dances are intertwined. Not only are they great instructors but they demonstrate that dancing on a social level is all about fun and trying different combinations while enjoying the dance with your partner. I highly recommend Apasionado Dance to anyone who is just wanting to get started in learning to dance or is an experienced dancer and is wanting to take their dance to the next level. You will not be disappointed.
