En el casino cubano, la Vacila es una figura de coqueteo organizada alrededor de un solo pase sin prisa; su nombre procede del verbo vacilar —coquetear, provocar o saborear—, lo que establece el ánimo que la figura pide: el líder se aparta hacia un lado y saborea el momento en lugar de apresurar a la seguidora a través de él.[1] Los glosarios de terminología de casino-salsa la enumeran entre las figuras en pareja, no entre los pasos de pies ni los shines solistas, porque su sustancia está en el juego entre dos bailadores que comparten un marco, no en una secuencia de pies elaborados.[2]
Desde el básico abierto de guapea, el líder rompe hacia atrás, se abre hacia un lado y levanta las manos unidas para despejar el camino; luego guía a la seguidora para que camine hacia adelante y cruce frente a él de manera pausada y coqueta, mientras él marca el ritmo en su sitio y la observa pasar.[3] Líder y seguidora se reflejan mutuamente, rompiendo en pies opuestos, de modo que el desplazamiento hacia adelante de la seguidora cae en los tiempos posteriores a la ruptura inicial y no en la ruptura misma; la indicación práctica es mantener la caminata lenta y dejar que la mirada, no la velocidad, sostenga la figura. El pase se baila a tiempo, en el 1, y permanece dentro del marco circular del casino, no sobre una línea fija.[3] La enseñanza de salsa cubana trata la Vacila como repertorio fundacional, impartido una vez que el paso básico y el dile que no están seguros, para que el líder pueda dedicar toda su atención a enmarcar el pase.[4]
En rueda de casino, la figura se llama en imperativo, Vacílala, acompañada de una seña manual correspondiente del cantante, de modo que cada pareja en la rueda realiza el pase al mismo tiempo y sobre el mismo pulso.[5] A medida que el casino se expandió más allá de Cuba hacia escenas internacionales, los glosarios de referencia registraron ambas grafías —Vacila y Vacilala—, preservando la figura bajo cualquiera de los dos nombres en la comunidad más amplia de casino y rueda.[6]

Líder
From the open guapea basic, on count 1 break back onto the left foot and open about a quarter to the side, lifting the joined hands to clear a path; on 2–3 settle and gently lead the follower forward and across the front, marking the beat and admiring the pass rather than pulling. On the second break (count 5) re-collect the connection to walk her back or feed the next figure. Opposite foot to the follower throughout; keep the frame circular, not a slot.
Seguidor
Mirror the leader: on count 1 break back onto the right foot, stepping away rather than forward; on 2–3 follow the raised-hand lead to walk forward and across in front of the leader with an unhurried, flirtatious carriage and glance — the travel happens on these counts, never on the break. On count 5 take the second break and follow the lead back or into the next figure, keeping the weight collected so the leader can redirect.
Tiempo musicalSits comfortably in son/casino music at roughly 150–185 bpm danced a tiempo, where the unhurried walk has room to read as flirtation; slower traditional son tempos (~130–150 bpm) suit its savored character even better, while from about 190 bpm up (fast timba/descarga) the pass must be compressed and loses its languor.

Errores comunes
- Follower stepping forward on count 1 instead of breaking back first, collapsing the open frame before the walk is led.
- Leader pulling or rushing the follower across rather than leading a relaxed, savored walk — the figure's character is the unhurried pass, not speed.
- Treating the pass as a linear slot exchange; casino's frame is circular, so the walk reads as an arc, not a straight track.
- Leader not opening enough to the side or not raising the hand, leaving the follower no room to walk by.
- Dropping the hand connection during the walk, so the follower cannot be redirected back on the second break.
