Zouk Bumerangue Duplo
Brazilian Zouk – double boomerang turn
ZoukLevel: Intermediate2 min read3 citations
The Bumerangue Duplo is a double boomerang turn in Brazilian Zouk: a two-measure travelling figure that links two consecutive Bumerangue rotations so the couple breaks back, opens, and recovers twice in succession. It belongs to the Bumerangue family — one of the style's signature "break-and-return" shapes built on the base Bumerangue — and is catalogued among the documented moves of the Brazilian Zouk vocabulary as a double-Bumerangue pattern that repeats the basic Bumerangue across two measures of music[1].
Names and regional variants
In the German Zouk scene the figure is frequently called "Doppel-Bumerangue," a literal rendering of the "double" concept, and German schools maintain dedicated archives of Bumerangue variations and the teaching material that supports them[2]. English-language Zouk communities, by contrast, keep the original Portuguese name "Bumerangue Duplo" untranslated, in line with the genre's broad retention of Brazilian terminology[3].
Execution
The figure is built on mirrored lead-and-follow footwork. On count 1 the leader breaks back onto the left foot, opening roughly a quarter turn away from the partner, while the follower mirrors the action by stepping back onto the right foot and opening the same quarter turn; both partners rotate in the same direction relative to their own bodies, which preserves the mirror. On counts 2-3 the leader steps forward to close the first Bumerangue rotation as the follower travels forward through the opened slot, turning about ninety degrees to face the leader again. Counts 5-7 repeat the sequence, so the figure resolves through two distinct reorientation points for a cumulative rotation of roughly 180°.
It sits comfortably within the typical Brazilian Zouk tempo of about 120-130 bpm, with more advanced dancers extending it to around 135 bpm.
