My daughter has been dancing at Del Arts going into her fourth year and this studio is amazing. They have always treated us with respect and have definitely helped her come out of her shell. So glad she started studying here.

To keep it short and simple… if you’re not a favorite, you will be invisible.

I have been with Del Arts for 6 years and my experience has been horrible for the last 3 years. I was getting bullied and when my mom informed the teacher, my mom was reprimnded for the way she handled the situation. My mom confronted the 2 bullies with the teacher present but was told later she upset the 2 bullies before the show, but no one was concerned that the 2 bullies were upsetting that entire day which had been going on for months in class and over the phone. None of my teachers cared to notice there was distance between the other students and me. I participated in all the events, Snow Queen, Competition, and Recital. When I auditioned for Snow Queen I was cast in 3 different parts. When I arrived the first day of the show late because of an accident, one of my parts were taken from me. A teacher called my mom to find out where we were and did not care to ask if we were ok. Instead I was told "you are late and you didn't know where your spot on stage was yesterday during rehearsal". I clearly informed my teacher that she never showed me where my spot was, but she proceeded to take my part away saying it was a "group decision with all my teachers. I arrive to 2 months of rehearsal on time and was never absent. Some days, I was sick or in pain because of medical conditions but I pushed through it. I auditioned for team competition last year but did not place. I re-auditioned two months later after having private lessons but only placed into hip hop team. I auditioned this year and did not place for anything, I did not re-audition. My eval for the school year is when I am told why I was not promoted to the next level but was never given corrections during class. It's like I'm not even seen. I enrolled into Ballet C2 and pre- pointe for summer maintenance because it is required for my ballet promotion. I only attended 2 classes out of 6 because I was sick and in and out of the hospital. No one even called or cared to check in on me. This was all that I needed to realize this environment is not for me. There is favoritism with students and parents. Favorites are noticed and rewarded. I gave my all even on my worst days and all I hear is dance like no one is watching. No matter how much effort I gave no one noticed. I was so proud to be a student at DELARTS and it hurt me to leave because I felt like I was never good enough and like I was nothing. But now I realize that DELARTS is a HORRIBLE environment to learn. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD THERE UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO FACE BULLYING AND FAVORITISM. If I could rate this place 0 stars I would!!

I spent three years training at DelArts, and I am so glad I did! The studio is a welcoming environment that I felt comfortable in immediately, and the support I felt from each teacher I learned from was immeasurably valuable. I was definitely apprehensive about starting dance as a teen; however, DelArts’s teen/adult ballet and tap classes gave me a judge free environment to safely learn the foundations and fundamentals. Safe spaces for art education are SO important, and I am grateful for the time I spent at DelArts. My only regret is not starting sooner!

My daughter attended her first DelArts theater camp at Candlelight this summer and it was an amazing experience. What they accomplished with 30 kids under 12 in just two weeks was incredible. It was so well-organized, the teachers were top notch, and the communication with parents before and throughout the camp was excellent. I’m really impressed with all DelArts has to offer and we will definitely be back!

    Response from Delaware Arts Conservatory
