“I’m originally a native New Yorker and have taken a few salsa classes in my life, but as much as I wanted to get better at it I’ve never felt truly comfortable taking a class. I’ve always wanted to learn to lead, but all my previous class experiences have explicitly said, men are the leaders and all women are followers when it can time to partner dancing. Mambo Bones studio, but specifically Vanessa and Raj have created such an inclusive feeling in the space for all people of varying ages, skill level and identity of all kinds. We had such a fun time in our first class although most of us were kind of awkward as one is in doing something new, but the energy that Vanessa and Raj have is just so caring and gentle, and fun that any awkwardness dissipates pretty quickly and you’re able to just have fun with the newness. I’m new to the Richmond area and wanted to find a community of people, learn something new and stick with it and I think I’ve found it!
