Latin dance in
Houston.

Cumbia roots, salsa nights, bachata everywhere.

Houston is the sleeping giant of US Latin dance — the fourth-largest metro, a majority-Latino region, and a scene that runs on Saturday afternoons as much as Friday nights. Cumbia is the unspoken default; salsa and bachata layer on top. You'll hear norteño, Tejano, and Dominican bachata in the same venue, back-to-back.

The Southwest Freeway corridor, the Heights, and EaDo hold most of the weeknight socials. Katy and Sugar Land run the suburban studios and family-friendly weekend dances. Summer outdoor socials are common — the humidity is part of the deal. Friday and Saturday are headline; Sunday matinee socials are a Houston specialty.

The bar for "dancing" is lower than in NYC or LA — small-talk cumbia turns into full salsa turns into sensual bachata and nobody notices the genre change. Say yes to the dance, figure it out en route.
